My name is Giovanni Angelo Sipiano and I started the internship at Channel 4 in September 2010, and graduated with First-Class Honours in the summer of 2013.

I attained 90% on my final year project, which was the highest grade in the year, and resulted in me being awarded the ‘Ian Killilea Memorial Award’ by the University. The app I developed also contributed toward Channel 4 winning the ‘Techworld Mobile Project of the Year’ award in November 2013, as well as receiving much acclaim by the stakeholders at Channel 4.

The internship provided me with a significant advantage over my peers, as it allowed me to gain three years’ worth of experience in a professional, creative environment, as well as removing the financial burden imposed by higher education, as all my tuition fees were paid for.

The internship has given me the perfect start to my career, and I now work full-time as a Software Developer on Channel 4’s VoD systems.

My name is Luke Philips and I am a graduate from the University of Westminster, class 2013. I achieved a first class degree in Software Engineering, as well as receiving two awards of excellence.

I applied for the Software Developer internship as I learnt very early that education is only useful when paired with experience, and to get experience in an innovative company like Channel 4 was a no-brainer. Not only did I gain invaluable experience, but I had the opportunity to work with individuals well versed in the industry; that aided me through my studies and taught me about technology beyond University and Channel 4.

Throughout the internship I worked on various systems across the company, one of which has won a TechWorld award for ‘best mobile application of the year’. I now work as a full time software engineer at Channel 4.

My name is Masuma Rahman. I joined Channel 4 as a Software Developer Intern in 2011. I’m now in my final year studying towards a Computer Science degree at the University of Westminster.

I applied to the internship as I knew I’d be able to gain invaluable experience of working on real projects. I now have a better understanding of technology within businesses and the variety of career pathways available to me. I feel this has given me a great advantage over my peers, and helped prepare me for a full-time job after university.

Throughout the years I’ve worked hard and in return I’ve been awarded for my Outstanding Achievement in L5 studies, I was presented with the O’Reilly Academic Prize Award, and I was entered onto the University of Westminster Dean’s List 2013/2014.

I have consistently achieved high grades averaging at 70+% in all end-of-year exams. I’m particularly proud of achieving 96% in ‘Database Design and Practice’.

My name is Chris Knight. I started on the Software Developer internship in September 2012; I’m currently in the second year of university studying towards a Computer Science degree.

I applied for the internship at Channel 4 as it seemed like a fantastic opportunity; Three years of relevant experience in a large company who would also pay tuition fees, grants and payment for non-term time work completed.

The practical experience gained whilst working during the summer holidays pushed my knowledge and skill much higher than I had acquired by the end of the first year of lectures, putting me in a much more capable position for the start of the following academic year. This years’ university project will be rolled out as a live system throughout Channel 4.

During the first year I achieved over 90% in 4 modules, including one with 100%. For the module that I worked towards at Channel4 I achieved 97%. I was awarded with a place on the Dean's List and also given an achievement award with a £1000 cheque.

My name is Mithilesh Zavar. I’m in my first year at university, studying Computer Science and have been part of the Channel 4 software developer internship since November 2013.

I’ve learnt a great deal about web front-end programming and my skills in HTML, CSS, and Javascript have improved considerably. Working as an intern has helped me achieve excellent grades in my coursework and exams.

I’m particularly proud of the 95% I was awarded for Software Development Principles, and the 92% I achieved for Web Technology, which was the work I developed at Channel 4 during my first year.

I’ve gained valuable work experience and had my eyes opened to the different career paths possible within IT.
